lászló moholy-nagy: painting photography film
new bauhaus books. author: hans maria wingler
reprint of the 1927 edition
18 x 25 cm, 150 pages, 113 abb., hardcover
moholy-nagy's importance for the avant-garde is also evident in the book "painting, photography, film", which he wrote and designed and which is now available as a facsimile. around 1925, he began to reject hand-made texture. he gave up painting to turn to "drawing with light". in doing so, he does not devote himself to traditional photography, but seeks experimentation: he calls for the "elimination of perspective representation", he dreams of "apparatuses with lenses and mirror devices that can grasp the object from all sides simultaneously, (...) which are based on different optical laws than our eyes." the book is a treasure trove of utopias, some of which have now become reality. moholy's experiments with technical possibilities have led to art forms that are still relevant today, which is also evident in his photographs.
