the ritz decors developed by hedwig bollhagen for everyday tableware are an objectification of ceramic tradition. the typical bollhagen decors are produced by a special technique and have a high recognition value:

 a thin, black layer of clay is applied to the raw, leather-hard shards before the first firing process. ceramists and ceramic painters then finely carve geometric or asymmetrical patterns and details into the surface, partially revealing the lighter colour of the raw clay shards. afterwards, the two-tone décor is glazed transparently.

hedwig bollhagen was co-founder and namesake of the HB workshop for ceramics, in which tableware and architectural ceramics have been handcrafted in marwitz, brandenburg, since 1934.
