poster: colour plan bauhaus meisterhäuser houses dessau by alfred arndt

concurrently to the bauhaus building in dessau in 1926, the meisterhäuser, residential buildings for the bauhaus master craftsmen were constructed. following a design by walter gropius, three semi-detached houses were built - which can be seen in the design – as well as a single house for the director.

the colour scheme by alfred arndt was intended for the three semi-detached houses, the perspective is unusual: the houses are shown from below. the outer walls are decorated with pastel shades - light yellow, pink and light grey. in contrast, protrusions, balcony undersides, window reveals, downpipes and railings are set in bright red and blue.

the colour scheme shown on the poster was not executed. walter gropius had the exterior of the houses painted in clear white, presumably to bring out the clear cubic forms the most.
